This Passive House maximized the space, creating a beautiful home three-bedroom home and a two-bedroom suite in the space, all at costs comparable to average custom home construction in B.C. The main house boasts three bedrooms, a home office, and a great room while the suite is spread over two levels to create a sense of a larger space.
Including a suite increases the community’s available housing options and helps to offset overall costs for the owner. The owner and renter will both benefit from Passive House features such as exemplary air quality, sound separation, and low operating costs.
The design of the building followed a simplified, but iconic, residential building form. This helped achieve our passive house goals, while also keeping it affordable. Care was also taken when selecting materials to ensure that the budget remained attainable, while still resulting in a beautiful building that the owners could be proud of.
The project is a stand-out in innovation and design as it demonstrates that high performance is not just for high-end custom homes.
