Everyone belongs in nature!

We are thrilled to be involved with Power To Be, a Victoria-based non-profit that provides inclusive outdoor recreation programs for people living with a barrier or disability. It’s uplifting to be welcomed into such an energetic and wonderful group of people who are so successfully improving lives in our community. We are proud to be continuing as the 2017 construction sponsor for their annual fundraiser Power To Play Victoria. The enthusiasm the staff and crew has for this organization and event is overwhelming. For the third year in a row we will help build the course, volunteer at the event, and enter  – not one – but TWO teams in this fundraising race to make adventures in nature accessible to deserving people in our community.

Our commitment to proper training and education in our field is tightly coupled with ITA certification. The excellent staff and faculty at Camosun College perform the daunting task of laying the foundation of knowledge for our up-and-coming trades professionals. We take the job of supporting that learning process seriously, and are always looking to match our apprentices with experienced Red Seal Journeymen carpenters. Practices and products change daily, so education is a never-ending commitment.

We were very proud to have one of our former apprentices, Kendall Foster, compete and place in the 2015 GameChanger Youth Expo and Competition.

Participating in the BC Construction Safety Alliance Certificate of Recognition program (COR) has brought safety to the next level at Interactive Construction. We have a safety plan including everything from weekly meetings and site inspections to training and certification. Each site is equipped and crews trained in the use of necessary first aid, eye wash, fire safety and emergency response materials.

Environmental morality has been built deeply into our company. We operate a near-zero paper producing office, with bookkeeping, records, and administration done digitally. All our invoicing and communications are electronic unless a client specifically requires otherwise. Even jobsite management and time keeping are dealt with via online tools and on-site electronic devices. With our outgoing paper use minimised, we also continue to reduce the few remaining incoming sources.

On the construction front, the Passive House movement is gaining popularity here in Canada among energy conscious buyers, and we are part of the push. By using building science with a proven track record in many other countries in the world, we are constructing a home that requires almost no heating costs. The energy consumption is so low that some banks are beginning to adjust their mortgage calculations when financing a Passive House to account for these reduced costs. Read more about the process in our Passive House Blog.

We were also very excited to bring permeable concrete to Fairfield. With the help of ACT Finishing and ICL Concrete Supply, we successfully orchestrated this unique green solution to a common Victoria water run-off problem. Using modern compounds, today’s permeable concrete mix is able to successfully bond aggregates together in an open structure which allows water to pass straight through. We hope to see a lot more of it used in future eco-friendly home designs.

We were honoured to be a 2015 EcoStar Finalist, beside some pretty incredible companies working towards a greener future.

It is important to us that we support organizations that match our values and see the industry as adaptive and evolving. We are proud members of Victoria Residential Builders Association, Passive House Canada, and are BUILT GREEN® certified.
