Kitchen Trends

The kitchen has quickly become one of the most important spaces, if not the most important space. The heart and center of the home – and the party! To celebrate this place of nourishment and social magnetism, we’ve asked Carly to summarize some key considerations when it comes to kitchen design:
ON THE RISE
- Painted kitchens – there are so many colours to choose from, why not get adventurous?
- Wood veneers – more styles and species are available today than ever before.
- Two-tone kitchens are still big, people!
COUNTERTOPS ARE KEY
Quartz is especially big right now and is being made to replicate natural stone, especially marble with the veining. Quartz is praised for being “what you see is what you get”, unlike natural stones. There are so many great lines out there to choose from, such as Cambria, Caesarstone and Silestone.
BACKSPLASH TILE
Have fun with this, especially if you have a solid colour countertop. If you’ve got a busy countertop, consider going with a solid colour backsplash tile.
HARDWARE
Who says your only options are grey tones like stainless and brushed nickel? These days, golds, bronzes and black tones are in. Add a splash of colour in monochromatic kitchens. TRENDING NOW: hardware that is built into the door or drawer.
SHELVING & CABINETS
Open shelving is a great way to display any specialty dishes/crockery that you own, and also adds an airy feeling to your kitchen. Taking cabinets to the ceiling is a must – who wants an open, unusable, dusty space above upper cabinets anyway?

Tiles: Go Big or Go Home

Thinking of updating your home?
A new trend is large-scale tiles. I am not talking about 12”x24″, I am talking 24”x36”, 24”x48″ or 48”x60”. Why are we seeing a trend toward this? Think “less grout” and a great option when renovating a bathroom, especially for cleaning! This new larger size provides you with a more interesting look and a seamless design.
Tiles and Pattern
Don’t be scared to have fun with colour and pattern. Tile manufactures are coming out with a great line of tiles with different motifs and colours. You can use them in any space of your home to add a splash of fun; kitchen backsplash, bathroom floor tile, laundry room, fireplace… the possibilities are endless. A little goes a long way and if you are brave, why not use these tiles in a large space. We are currently using this style of tile in an up and coming project, stay tuned for pictures.
